Workout Equipment for Cardio Fitness
Many people come to a gym to build their muscle strength and it is an unfortunate consequence of this that they ignore the value of cardio exercise in a bodybuilding routine. Building your cardio strength is something that should be done hand-in-hand with building a muscular strength and this article is going to look at some of the best workout equipment that you should be utilising in the gym to boost your cardio strength.
The Treadmill: The Most Popular Piece Of Workout Equipment
The treadmill is by far the most popular piece of cardio equipment in the gym and for good reason. Many people find it an intense exercise that burns calories faster and build up your stamina. After a while it is also an exercise that people find relaxing and stress relieving.
The intensity of exercise on a treadmill can vary greatly, and those you find at a good gym will not only be able to adjust the speed that they will also be able to adjust the angle, so you can choose to run uphill.
Elliptical Trainers
The elliptical trainer is a very similar piece of workout equipment to the treadmill, except that it completely removes any form of impact. Impact in some situations can be good, in moderation it can help build strong bones. However, if you have any sort of injury, or you have a sensitivity to high impact exercise than the elliptical trainer is a very popular option. Many people are under the misconception that it is a form of exercises that burns less calories than the treadmill, this misconception comes because it is often felt to be an easier form of exercise. As a matter of fact the elliptical trainer burns around the same amount of calories as a treadmill does, it just feels less like it.
The Stairmaster
Stairmaster, is actually a brand and the correct name for the machine is a stair step. This is a popular cardio exercise and allows you to burn calories very quickly as it exercises a very large group of muscles in the body. While it might not feel like it, the stair stepper is a high impact exercise and people who use it too often will find that they might have an ache in their knees. An important tip when using the Stairmaster is to remember that the handles are there to balance you and not for you to pull yourself up on. If you are pulling yourself up on the handles then the calorie counts on the machine is going to become inaccurate. Lower the level of the machine until you just need the handles for balance.
The Rowing Machine
Personally, I think the rowing machine is one of the least appreciated cardio machines in the gym. Most people are not using it correctly and they pull far too hard and do not have the right form. If used correctly the machine can be an intensive cardio workout, but because you control the intensity you have to have enough motivation to work hard.
