As you will no doubt fully be aware, diet is extremely important when trying to get fit.  I have always struggled with this in the past and still do have major lapses in my diet that I know is holding me back from the potential gains in health I could be making if I were to eat a lot cleaner.

Trouble is, junk food is just so damn TASTY!

The good news however is that lately (in the past couple of weeks since starting my fitness program) I have been eating a lot better.  Im not saying I am eating perfectly, I am saying “better”.  At the end of the day I am human and I will have lapses when it comes to diet, sometimes its just more convenient to get take-away some nights.

I am however conciously trying to reduce the number of times I lapse and so far so good.  I have a plan in my head of what I should be eating on a daily basis and here it is in its rawest form below:

  • Breakfast – A bowl of porridge with some semi-skimmed milk, one peice of fruit (usually banana) and a protein shake.
  • Morning Snack – Fruit
  • Lunch – I aim to get a protein/carb meal at this time of day and have been going for the tried and tested chicken & rice combo.  Loving lunches!
  • Afternoon Snack – Protein bar
  • Dinner – I aim to get some decent amount of protein at this time of day and lay of the carbs, an example of this was last nights dinner of smoked haddock & steamed vegetables (actually they may have been microwaved, I never made last nights dinner!).
  • Evening Snack – Protein shake

Now you may be thinking “must be a nightmare to keep track of all your nutritional intake!” and to some extent you are correct, however thanks to modern technology there are a few websites out there that can make this process a lot easier.  I have opted to use My Fitness Pal, it was a toss up between that and Fit Day (after a great nutritional article from Matt) but I personally felt the interface for MFP a lot more accomodating for what I needed to do so I went for that.

As you can see I had a major lapse at lunch time, not one but two rolls of fried nastyness.  Like I say I am human, I plan to iron out these moments to a bare minimum in the future and I will update this site daily with my daily food intake to motivate me to stay on the straight and narrow.
