A successful weight loss program must be effective and efficient at the same time. This means that you should lose a considerable amount of weight in a given time frame. For example, 1 or 2 pounds weight loss in a week. There are basically 3 things that you need to look for in a workout plan.

Duration

The duration of your workout plan is important. Along with establishing your weight loss goal, you need to provide a time frame for yourself that you think is healthy for you to lose your goal weight. For example, 10 pounds a month or 50 pounds in 3 months. Once you’ve created this, you need to keep a journal of your weekly or, if possible, daily progress. For you to be able to do this accurately, you will need a digital scale to measure your weight. Remember that a little difference reflects the effectiveness of the workout plan you adopted.

Do not forget to give yourself an ample amount of time to lose weight. Everyone knows that losing weight does not happen overnight. Do not put too much pressure on yourself because this will just make you give up easily.

Your workout plan must include workout routines for every day. You can place Cardio and strength training on Mondays, you can rest on Tuesdays, aerobics on Wednesdays, running or sprinting on Thursdays and the like. Review each day and make sure that you are available and can commit on the given days. Do not give yourself a chance for excuses. You have to allot time for your workout if you really want to lose weight.

Make sure that the exercises listed can be performed by your current health condition. This is the reason why you will have different routines every two weeks. Your body will need to increase the intensity and number of sets for your workouts.

Food Plan

A person’s nutrition is a primary concern in any workout plan. The food you eat will determine if all your hard work at the gym or at home is worth it. Your food plan will include an eating schedule. When do you need to eat, anyway? This is the most ideal eating schedule for everybody.

  • 8:00 AM – breakfast
  • 10:00 AM – snack
  • 12:00 PM – lunch
  • 2:30 PM – snack
  • 5:30 PM – dinner

These meals are meant to be prepared in proportion. You don’t need to calculate calories because, the truth is, that is quite impossible. You can never count calories especially if you do not prepare your own food. You should avoid eating after 6:00 PM because your body becomes less mobile thus, it burns less calories. Also, for most people, metabolism is slower after 6:00 PM.

Your liquids must be prepared carefully as well. For every 1000 calories that you expend when you work out, you must replace it with 1 litre of water. Avoid full cream dairy milk, processed fruit juice, soda and alcohol. All of these drinks are high in calorie and cause areas in your body to become bloated. Drink green tea every day. Replace your usual coffee with black coffee because it is a great anti-oxidant. Make your own fruit smoothies by using fruits and low fat yogurt.

In short, be very mindful of everything you put in your mouth. You are what you eat.
