Wheat is abundant in any place in the world. That is why many products are made out of it like pasta. I, personally, make it a point that whenever I eat pasta, it is made out of wheat. I have a slow metabolism that is why I am very vulnerable to weight gain. In order to maintain a healthy body weight, I modify my diet and find alternatives to regular food like pasta and milk. Instead of cow’s milk, I drink soy milk and instead of the regular pasta, I eat wheat pasta.

Whole wheat contains a lot of important nutrients. It has also been proven that people who eat whole wheat are able to control their body weight. A study conducted at Harvard with over 74,000 data collected on women aged 38 – 63 was able to conclude that those who ate whole wheat were 49% less likely to gain weight.

Eating whole wheat products will protect you from various kinds of diseases like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. The metabolic syndrome is a strong predictor of diabetes and heart disease. Common features of the metabolic syndrome are visceral obesity or an apple shaped body, lower levels of protective HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure and high triglycerides. We all, definitely, would not want to suffer from any of these. The Framingham Offspring Study analysed over 2,800 data regarding people who eat cereal fibre made of whole wheat and those who do not. The insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome of the group who ate more whole wheat was significantly lower than those who didn’t.

Whole wheat prevents type 2 diabetes because it contains a significant amount of magnesium which is needed for the body’s use of glucose and insulin. The risk of getting type 2 diabetes will be lower by 31% if you regularly consume whole wheat rich foods. This is important for you to know because type 2 diabetes has no cure. Once you get this illness, you will need to deal with it your whole life by having multiple restrictions from food and getting proper exercise. You won’t be able to live your life to the fullest.
