When I first started getting serious about my fitness in the mid-1990s I signed up to a gym and in many ways the way it worked has stayed very much the same until the present day. It seems that new types of gyms are emerging though and they are targeting specific groups of people seeking to become fit.

When I started working out at the gym, there was everyone there, from beginners like me to serious athletes and bodybuilders. There were even people from the nearby retirement home who came to do some simple exercises to improve their mobility. No one thought that it was unusual that all these people came to do the same type of exercise. A hybrid gym is a relatively new concept that is challenging the idea that all types of people should be working out of the same gym.

The idea behind a hybrid gym is that it can provide specialist services to people as it caters to a specific fitness need. By going to a hybrid gym you will find specialist trainers who are more capable of dealing with your fitness requirements than those you would find as a general gym.

Hybrid Gyms Can Help You Achieve Your Goals

If you are an athlete and you want to improve the speed at which you can run there is little point going to a trainer whose greatest expertise is in weight loss. Chances are that if you are trying to increase your speed you’re already beyond the need for weight loss. At a hybrid gym you will find a trainer who has special experience in helping you achieve your specific goals. Likewise, if you are overweight there is little point going to a speed training specialist.

A specialist coach will also be up to help you set realistic goals and create a program that will allow you to achieve.

Getting Better Results

You might find that if you are going to a non-hybrid gym you may be getting the same advice as other people who were working out there. As we discussed earlier there are many different types of people in the gym, and it doesn’t make sense for you to be getting the same advice as other people. Drawing up a workout routine specific to your requirements is a surprisingly complex process and you want to have one that allows you to get the most benefit without having to waste effort.

As a general rule, trainers who work in standard gyms do not have specialist knowledge like the people in a hybrid gym would have. This means that the information you get, while often useful, might not be as beneficial as the specialist advice. Think about it, if a trainer spends half the day telling old people about mobility exercises then some of that is sure to spill over into the advice that he gives to aspiring athletes. By going to a trainer you just focuses on aspiring athletes, or the elderly, you are sure to get more valuable experience and achieve better results.
