How To Make Your Own Home Gym Equipment

Having a home gym is a great option for people who want to be able to get some exercise without leaving the house. Unfortunately, a lot of gym equipment is quite expensive but that cost should not be a barrier to keeping fit and healthy. In this article I’m going to give you some advice on how to make your own home gym equipment.

Making your own equipment for use at home can be a satisfying process and one that will have long-term benefits for your health. The motivation you get from using something that you have created yourself is significant and you will find yourself using your creation every day.

Make The Home Gym Equipment Basic, The Dumbbell

The dumbbells should form part of any home gym equipment and while you can spend money on them it is also possible to create simple dumbbells items you can find around the house. If you take a leftover milk container with a solid handle it is possible to fill this and use it as a weight. There are many different substances you can fill the milk bottle with and each will give you a different weight. Water is an easy and lightweight option but if you want something a bit heavier than you can mix up some concrete and pour that inside.

Making Your Own Pull Up Bar

I can’t stress the value of having a pull up bar in a house enough. Without going to the gym there are few better ways to get such a full workout for your upper body and your core. There are many types of pull up bars that you can buy for your house but it is also quite easy to make your own.

If you have a space in your home where the rafters in the roof visible it is very easy to attach braces to them and to those attach a strong metal bar. For comfort and grip you can add something to the bar and make sure that it is at a height that you can easily reach and there is plenty of space for headroom. If you do not have such a convenient space check out some tutorials online, I just had a look and there are plenty on the internet for people who don’t have exposed rafters.

Making A Step

Using a step is an intense cardio exercise and it can be used in combination with workout DVDs. There is no need to spend a lot of money on one, in fact, this type of equipment might not actually need you to do anything at all. Assuming that your house is more than one story you already have stairs in your house which can be used. However, you might want the convenience of being able to use your step elsewhere. There are many materials that you can use to construct the step, such as wood, and if you make it, make sure that it is sturdy and can easily support more than your weight.
