How To Become A Certified Personal Trainer Online
Getting a degree or certificate in any subject has never been easier. Don’t have time to attend scheduled courses? Live in a place where no courses are offered? No problem.
You can study online. That is as long as you have a computer and an Internet connection. As the online education field grows and gains respect, so do your options. These days, you can even study online and become a certified personal trainer.
An online course takes an average of 13-16 weeks to complete. Is this an option for you? Maybe so.
Knowing Your Goals
When you start looking at obtaining online certification, you’ll see that you have lots of categories to choose from. Where do you start? Aerobic trainer? Weight trainer? It’s harder than ordering a cup of coffee.
At this point, keep it simple. Start with the basic personal fitness trainer course. Fitness centres will hire you with this credential. You can always get more specialised later.
Deciding what you’re going to study is just the first part. Now you have to decide on the program. If there is a specific place where you would like to work, check with them to see which certifications they accept. If you are planning to move abroad, and want to practice your profession, make sure that the certification is accepted in the country you are moving to.
Depending on your goals, it might be helpful to know that programs vary in difficulty. If you want to start teaching quickly, you might want to consider getting certified by one of the “easier” programs as long as the place where you want to work accepts the certification.
Getting Stared
Once you have decided which certificate provider is for you, apply for the course. You’ll pay for it with a credit card, online. I’ve taken online courses in the past and always felt secure in making my payments online.
After registering for the course, you can look forward to receiving your materials. Your course provider may also set up the testing location for you or you may have to do it yourself within a certain period of time.
During the study period, get your CPR certification. Fitness facilities require that you have this. It isn’t difficult to obtain, so don’t worry that this requirement will hold you back.
Becoming a certified personal trainer, however, requires a lot of studying. You may find that your current knowledge is just the tip of the iceberg. You’ll learn about subjects like anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and program design. It may be a bit overwhelming at first. Did you really sign up for a biology class by mistake? But it’s all part of being a personal trainer.
When you have finished going through the material, take a practice exam to judge whether you are ready to take the test. Most online courses offer the ability to take a practice test. If you aren’t ready, review the material.
Take your official test and pass it. Congratulations! You’re now a certified personal trainer.
