Generally core stability is something that is not given as much attention as it perhaps deserves in the area of fitness training. This is largely because when you start a core stability programme you are unlikely to feel immediate effects. Core strength training however does lead to significant benefits if you stick with it, you will find that the rest of your exercise routine becomes easier and after a while you will find that your movements when playing sport becomes more disciplined. Improving core strength generally gives athletes a bit of an edge over opponents as they are perhaps not so focused on training their cores.

How To Go About Core Strength Training

First off, it must be understood that the core does not just include the abdominal muscles but it involves everything that supports the spine and the pelvis. Unfortunately core strength training has become something of a buzzword in the fitness industry and this has meant that there are several gimmicky devices on the market claiming to build your core strength without much effort.

There are however, some devices that are well known to be able to build core strength is unfortunately there are no shortcuts to doing so, so don’t fall for these marketing ploys. A balance board, stability ball and a medicine ball are all important items that you should be using to build your core strength. A medicine ball will allow you to perform exercises that are impossible with free weights so it is a piece of equipment well worth investing in.

There are core training exercises that can be done without any equipment whatsoever. Exercises, such as the prone bridge, lateral bridge, and pelvic thrusts are all methods for improving core strength without equipment. You might want to have a comfortable mat to perform these exercises on.

How Does Core Strength Affect Athletic Ability?

Having strong core strength will mean you have better control of your muscles and will be up to better control your movements. The sports that require a lot of agility this is a valuable skill and something that is well worth developing. Also, having a powerful core will boost the power of your peripheral muscles, it is essential to understand that even if you have very strong arms, if your core is weak they will not be as effective as they could be.

Other Benefits Of Having A Strong Core

For those who are suffering from lower back pain building core strength can offer some pain relief. Also, if you receive a shock to your spine and you have strong core muscles, they will protect from some of the jarring and can prevent you from having a more serious injury.

Although the abdominal muscles are only a part of core strength, if you want to get a six pack then doing core strength work is the best way to achieve this. Building core strength will also reduce body fat at the same time as building the abdominal muscles which will make your six pack visible.
